The Congress party has launched a fresh attack on the Union government, accusing it of “gifting” 1,050 acres of land in Bhagalpur, Bihar, to the Adani Group under extremely favorable terms.
At a press briefing in Delhi, senior Congress leader Pawan Khera alleged that the move reflects a pattern of last-minute concessions to industrialist Gautam Adani whenever elections draw near.

Land Allocation at ₹1 per Year
Khera claimed that in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur, land for a 2,400 MW power plant—valued at ₹21,400 crore—was handed over to Adani for just ₹1 per year for 33 years. The project, originally announced in the Union Budget as a government initiative, was later allegedly transferred to the Adani Group.
He also alleged that villagers opposing the project were placed under house arrest ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the region on September 15.

Pattern Before Elections
The Congress leader pointed to similar instances in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh, where, according to him, lucrative projects were handed to Adani before state polls. “Whenever the BJP senses defeat, Adani is given gifts in advance,” Khera alleged.

Alleged ‘Double Loot’
Khera further charged that Bihar’s land, coal, and resources would be used to run the plant, but electricity would still be sold back to the state’s people at higher rates—₹6.75 per unit in Bihar compared to ₹3–₹4 per unit in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. He claimed farmers were coerced into giving up their land under pressure.
Neither the Centre, the Bihar government, nor the Adani Group has issued an official response to these allegations.
