New Delhi — The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has intensified its call for residents of the Signature View Apartments in Mukherjee Nagar to vacate their homes immediately, following the expiry of the court-mandated evacuation window.

The apartment complex, which consists of 336 flats, has been officially declared a “dangerous building” due to severe structural instability. With safety risks escalating, the DDA issued a formal notice on April 15, reminding residents that the High Court had instructed all occupants to vacate between December 23, 2024, and March 23, 2025—a deadline that has now come and gone.
Demolition Plans Underway
The demolition process has already been set in motion. An e-tender for dismantling the structures was floated on March 17, soon after the DDA released a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to guide the evacuation process in collaboration with the Resident Welfare Association (RWA).
The selected agency will not only be responsible for tearing down the structures but also for transporting the debris to an officially approved Municipal Corporation of Delhi dumping site.
Safety First, Reconstruction Next
In its latest notice, the DDA urged residents to leave the premises without further delay, citing serious concerns over structural safety. It emphasized that the evacuation is critical to kick-start the demolition and eventual redevelopment of the project.
The DDA has assured that details regarding the reconstruction timeline and the facilitation amount—intended to support displaced residents—will be communicated soon.
Rent Compensation: A Point of Contention
Despite the evacuation order being enforced, compensation remains a grey area. According to Amrendra Singh Rakesh, President of the Signature View RWA, 111 families have already vacated their homes, yet none have received the promised rent assistance.
“Residents were promised financial aid upon vacating, but even after 111 families complied, not a single rupee has been disbursed,” Rakesh stated.
“This delay has created immense confusion and mistrust among those still living in the complex.”

Legal Mandate and DDA’s Position
The Delhi High Court, in its November 2024 order, had made it clear: evacuation must be completed within three months, and rent support was to be provided promptly. The DDA has confirmed its intent to adhere to the court’s direction on providing rent relief but also indicated plans to appeal certain elements of the ruling.
What’s Next?
With the legal deadline already past, the DDA has called on the RWA to urgently coordinate with remaining residents for a smooth and expedited evacuation process. Any delays at this stage could impact both resident safety and the broader redevelopment schedule.
