Rajat Patidar Becomes Second-Fastest Indian to 1,000 IPL Runs in 2025

Rajat Patidar Makes History

Bengaluru, April 18:

Rajat Patidar, leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has carved out a special place for himself in the league’s history. With a composed yet explosive knock, the stylish right-hander became the second-fastest Indian to reach 1,000 IPL runs, achieving the milestone in just 30 innings.

Only Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans has done it quicker, reaching the landmark in just 25 innings. In doing so, Patidar surpassed some of the most revered names in Indian cricket, including Sachin Tendulkar and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who both took 31 innings, and Tilak Varma (33 innings).

Not Just Fast—But Fierce

What truly sets Patidar apart is the way he’s reached this landmark. He’s now the first Indian batter in IPL history to score 1,000 runs with a batting average of over 35 and a strike rate north of 150. This rare combination reflects not just consistency, but also high-impact performance—especially in pressure-packed games.

A Bittersweet Day for RCB

Despite the personal feat, it wasn’t a memorable outing for RCB as a team. In a rain-curtailed 14-over clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowled out RCB for just 95/9 after winning the toss and electing to bowl first.

The match began with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli opening the innings. However, PBKS got off to a flying start, with Arshdeep Singh dismissing Salt in the very first over. Patidar, walking in early, notched up his 1,000-run milestone in the second over but couldn’t convert it into a big score—he departed for 23 off 18.

Virat Kohli (1) followed soon after, as Arshdeep struck again. Liam Livingstone (4), Jitesh Sharma (2), and Manoj Bhandage (1) failed to stabilize the innings, with wickets tumbling at regular intervals.

RCB found a late savior in David, who lit up the final over with three sixes en route to a quickfire fifty, single-handedly pushing the team towards a defendable total.

Punjab Kings’ Bowling Brilliance

PBKS bowlers put on a clinical show. The returning Harpreet Brar, playing his first game of the season, made an immediate impact with two wickets in his very first over. Marco Jansen impressed with figures of 2/10, while Arshdeep, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Brar chipped in with two wickets apiece. Xavier Bartlett also claimed a wicket, rounding off a strong collective effort with the ball.

The Road Ahead

With RCB struggling to find their rhythm this season, Patidar’s leadership and form with the bat will be pivotal in turning things around. His ability to anchor the innings while maintaining an aggressive strike rate makes him one of the brightest Indian T20 prospects to watch out for.
